WHITE RIVER VALLEY Our Greenland Senior Center seems to be coming back to life. We have several games to play that we haven’t tried yet, and our howling monkeys are to arrive soon. We have been playing Bingo and giving away nice prizes. Our director, Jackie Lonon, brought us several bags full of items we can use for prizes such as toiletries, snacks and household gadgets.
We enjoy our exercise machines, and we plan to do more exercising. Now, if we could just convince more Greenland people that they are missing a lot by not coming to our center.
There was to be a big announcement here, but I lost my notes. I will try to remember what I had written down. There is going to be a fund raising musical event at the Farmington Senior Center.
Ken Harvey and his men will entertain you with songs and, maybe, dancing. Several other musicians will help put on the show. I believe pies will be served and other good things to eat. If you want more details you cancall the Farmington Senior Center at 479-267-5709. I think Lee Owen said it would be on Saturday, Nov. 7, at 6:30 p.m. I am sorry for not having the correct details for you, but if you phone Farmington they will tell you all about it. It sounded to me like it will be a very good time for all who attends, and the money will go for a very good cause. Their center needs some new kitchen equipment and you know what that means -- more good food for everyone.
Our Greenland neighbor who has been visiting our center is Harlan Shelton. I apologize for calling him “Arlan.” He ate biscuits and gravy with us last Thursday. We had a pretty good crowd, I am pleased to say. Our spaghetti lunch was delicious, but quite a bit more work more than we were used to and I heard more than one say they were exhausted. But, boy, was that spaghetti ever good. Harlan was at the center for that treat, and he enjoyed listening to Lee Owen and his musical friends who had come to play guitars and sing for us.
Ken and Linda Niccum, who usually play and sing with Lee, were not there that day due to the fact that Ken was having chemo treatments. We all hope and pray he will soon feel strong enough to come back to our center on the third Friday of each month to let us hear some more of their beautiful music. We really missed them and their music.
