— The White River Valley News was part of a merger of all northwest Arkansas newspaper between the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette Inc.’s operations in this area and Stephens Media LLC that became official on Sunday, Nov. 1.

“It [the merger] mostly affected the dailies,” weeklies editor Kent Marts said Monday morning. “Everything will remain the same at the weeklies.”

Marts said the weekly newspapers, including the White River Valley News, will be reorganized only in the way editors, reporters and paginators of the newspapers work, which will not affect the WRVN’s staff or content.

Pat Harris will remain as managing editor of the White River Valley News and all freelancereporters and columnists who contribute to the newspaper will remain the same, according to Marts.

The same people at each weekly paper will be doing the same work. The only difference will be that each newspaper’s staff will work as if they are on a daily rather than a weekly in order to organize news copy and paginating in case a staff member at any of the papers is absent for any reason, Marts said.

The merger brought the Northwest Arkansas Times, Springdale Morning News, Rogers Morning News and Benton County Daily Record and all the sister weeklies in Northwest Arkansas together under a new company, NorthwestArkansas Newspapers LLC. The northwest edition of the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette will remain independent, although it falls under the new company’s umbrella, too.
