— The St. Paul Elementary School students' first Tally Rally of the year was on Friday, Sept. 4.

Elementary Literacy Specialist Cindy Cain talked about this year's reading logo, "Take a Hike with a Good Book." All students will have the option to buy their reading t-shirts this year for around $8 because the PTSP will not be purchasing them this school year, according to Cain.

When students reach their goal of reading 25 books, Cain said that their names would be entered in a drawing for an iPod.

When everyone reaches their goal, they will have a pizza party. Teachers are again emphasizing how important it is to read. In October they will seehow many books are read.

Super Saints and Star Students will be selected for exhibiting good character traits and being on task at their grades and work.

The students' reading progress will be checked on the following dates the first semester: Sept. 4, 14, 23; Oct. 2, 12, 29; Nov. 9, 18; Dec. 9 and 18.

Elementary students' book goal is to read 2,000 books this year. At the end of the year at their very last Tally Rally, the students will find out if they met the total book goal and see if they get a special prize, which is a pizza party.

Mary Stout, third grade teacher said, "I expect this year to be an excellent reading year."

Third grade students Tyler Pummil and Savannah Taylor said that they think this year is "going to be a blast."
