HUNTSVILLE Dale Phillips was honored by the Huntsville School District at its September meeting with a plaque and many thanks for his 18 years of service to the school district.
Kevin Wilson will begin his tenure on the board at the October meeting.
"I figured this up -- a school board memberspends about 100 hours a year, that is 1800 hours you have worked, Dale, for free and we appreciate it," Superintendent Sisemore said.
"It's been a pleasure to work with the Huntsville School District and for our kids," Phillips said.
"I will still be a part of it and Huntsville schools in my heart and mind and in my thoughts." He then received a standing ovation.
Sisemore showed abrief inspirational power point called "212 boiling point," about the difference a small degree can make. He told the board he loved these and had one already picked out for next month.
In other business, the board heard a brief update on enrollment.
A total of 2364 students total district wide were counted, down from 2492 students last year.
The board was updated on the recent release ofACT tests scores. The ACT is the norm reference test used for those students entering college. According to the report given by high school principalMike Gray the average Act score for the class of 2009 was a composite of 21.8.
The board was also presented a copy of the annual report to the public. Each principal would be responsible for getting this information to the respective parents. Copies of the report are available at the central office.
A change order to make all the intercom systems the same on the middle school project was approved. The expense is expected to be around $26,994. Bob Huckleberry of Nabholz construction told the board he expects an early completion date on the project even with the recent rains.
An update on the district preparations for the upcoming flu outbreak was discussed. Rick Land, district administrator, said the district was being proactive on the possibility of an outbreak.
"It's really not a case of if, but when on this deal," Sisemore remarked.
